Camp in the Community, a ministry of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, is seeking a full-time, year-round Assistant Director to assist in the day-to-day operations of camp, staff recruiting and hiring, church training, and implementing traveling camp programs. Camp in the Community will have their first ACA accreditation visit this summer. Camp in the Community has grown exponentially since it's inception in 2011, from serving 77 campers per summer to serving 1204 campers in the summer of 2019. This growth has created a need for an Assistant Director to share the load, and grow this ministry.

Position Title: Assistant Director, Camp in the Community
Supervisor: Director, Camp in the Community
Location: Camp in the Community, Alcoa, TN
PURPOSE AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Assistant Director of Camp in the Community is responsible for assisting the director in day-to-day operations of the Camp in the Community program, including staff & junior counselor recruitment & training, church training, and summer camp program planning & implementation. Summer responsibilities will include acting as Site Director for one of three camp locations, night time supervision of camp staff, and acting as a resource for camp staff, campers, and host churches.
Required:

Valid Driver License
-
Current CPR/First Aid Certification, or Willingness to be Trained & Certified

Prior Camp Leadership Experience

Willingness to Work Long Days and Hours During Summer Months

Comfortable Working with Diverse Population

Enjoys Working with Children and Young Adults
-
Works Well on a Team

Excellent Communication Skills

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree

Fluent Spanish

Experience Designing Programming

Understanding of ACA (American Camp Association) Standards Preferred

Traveling each week during summer (11 weeks)

Sleeping at host families homes, in cots, on air mattresses

Ability to sing, cheer, clap, laugh, sit, stand, and lay

Adjusting to camp food provided by host sites

Lifting up to 40 lbs.

Attaching, detaching, and moving box trailers and 15-passenger vans

Anticipated Salary and Benefits:
