MEET THE STAFF
Meet Whitney, the amazing force behind Camp in the Community! She started the program in 2011 as a small outreach of Camp Wesley Woods (CWW). Whitney's dedication and passion propelled it to new heights, reaching over 400 children in its final year at CWW.
In November 2016, Whitney became the director as Camp in the Community became its own camp, focused on serving children in poverty throughout the Holston Conference.
With a degree in outdoor recreation, Whitney is always ready for an adventure. Singing, hiking, camping, backpacking, and exploring new places are among her passions. She and her husband Nick have two precious children, Wesley and Clark.

Meet, Haleigh – the dedicated backbone of camp! A passionate camping enthusiast with a writing communications degree from Maryville College and Nonprofit Professional credentials, she fell in love with camping through Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries. From counselor to intern at Camp in the Community, she embraced every opportunity to make a difference. Before returning as Assistant Director, she served as a Youth Ministry Coordinator at Emerald Youth Foundation.
Now, she’s dedicated to creating unforgettable camp experiences. Living in Maryville with her husband Matthew and son Calloway, she enjoys reading, concerts, and time with her golden retriever.
KEENAN GERBACH
faith & community engagment coordinator
Meet Keenan! He was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, and holds a BA in Sport and Recreation Management from the University of the Western Cape. He first came to East Tennessee in 2011 as a Holston Conference camp counselor and has been involved in camping ministry in both the U.S. and South Africa ever since.
With experience as a counselor, outdoor education instructor, and program specialist, he now serves as the Faith and Community Engagement Coordinator with Camp in the Community. In 2013, he founded CAMP YOGO in South Africa, running it for seven years, and also served as a youth pastor for three years.
Passionate about ministry and discipleship, Keenan also enjoys spending time with his wife, Britney, and daughter, Manna.

Vincent Charlow
Vincent is a Bahamian artist, worship leader, and storyteller with a deep love for camping ministry. His journey began as a camper at Camp Wesley Woods, where he later served on staff, fostering his passion for outdoor ministry and spiritual formation. Vincent is a recording artist and collaborates with Common Hymnal, using music to gather stories and reflect the rich tapestry of humanity. Through worship and songwriting, he creates space for diverse voices and shared experiences, believing in the power of music to inspire, heal, and unite.
Chris Ray
Personnel Chair
Chris Ray serves as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Surgoinsville and Union United Methodist Church in Eidson. An ordained elder in the Holston Conference of The United Methodist Church, Chris brings years of pastoral leadership, community engagement, and a deep commitment to helping churches connect meaningfully with the people around them. His experience as a pastor, his care for local communities, and his belief in ministry that extends beyond the walls of the church make him a thoughtful and valuable member of the board.
Carter Cross
Finance Chair
Carter has been a dedicated supporter of Camp in the Community for many years, using his time, skills, and passion to help the ministry thrive. From building giant Jenga sets to empowering his church to raise vital funds, Carter has played a key role in sustaining and expanding camp’s impact. He has a deep love for the outreach aspects of camp and a heart for sharing God’s love with children in hands-on, transformative ways. His commitment ensures that kids not only experience the joy of camp but also receive the support and care that shape their lives far beyond the summer.
Jason Gattis
Jason is the pastor of First-Centenary UMC in Chattanooga and a lifelong supporter of camping ministry. Having grown up at Camp Sumatonga, he understands the transformative power of camp and has carried that passion into his ministry. A true servant leader, Jason leads by example—whether guiding a congregation or mowing the lawn at camp. Even while serving as a District Superintendent overseeing many churches, he remained hands-on in his support of Camp in the Community. He is committed to creating spaces where people can grow in faith, community, and service.
Taylor Hines
Vice Chair
Taylor is the pastor at First UMC Narrows and a longtime supporter of camp ministry. New to the area, he is excited to build relationships and serve the community in meaningful ways. A passionate advocate for outdoor ministry, Taylor spent several summers working at camp and understands the impact it has on children, families, and churches. He looks forward to continuing First UMC Narrows’ partnership with Camp in the Community and finding new ways to connect, serve, and grow alongside the community.
Mollianne Hubbs
Meet Mollianne, our board chair. Holston Conference Camping has been a huge part of her life since she was a small camper, and that love only grew from there. She spent years serving as program director at Camp Wesley Woods, shaping the same kind of camp experience that had shaped her. These days she works in the housing industry, and she and her family are part of the effort to provide affordable housing to families in Blount County, where prices elsewhere have become out of reach.Mollianne is married to Will Hubbs, and together they're raising two boys, Cade and Oliver.

Josh Kilbourne
Josh is married to Callie and the father of Ana and Isaiah. He pastors First UMC Pulaski, Virginia. Josh loves spending in the beauty and wonder of God’s good creation, and he is a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ, seeking to learn how to faithfully live in and for His kingdom and help others follow Him in living in and for His kingdom.
Adam Love
Adam is the pastor of Mafair UMC in Kingsport, TN, and a dedicated community builder. He has a deep passion for bringing people together, fostering connections, and reaching out to the community beyond the church walls. A longtime supporter of Camp in the Community, Adam’s wisdom, compassion, and great sense of humor make him a valued partner in ministry. He believes in the power of camp to transform lives and is committed to creating welcoming spaces where all can grow in faith and fellowship.
Danaya Bryson
Danaya Randolph, Director of Children and Family Ministries at Middlebrook UMC, has over a decade of experience in children’s ministry and education. With a biochemistry degree from Maryville College, she blends hands-on learning, storytelling, and music to create engaging faith experiences. She loves building spaces where kids feel safe, loved, and encouraged to grow in faith. Danaya, her husband CJ, and their daughter Aniyah are excited to connect with the Middlebrook UMC family.
Tom Robins
Board Chair Emeritus
Tom serves as Board Chair Emeritus for Camp in the Community, bringing years of leadership and a deep commitment to connecting churches with their communities. A steadfast advocate for outreach and relationship-building, Tom has played a pivotal role in expanding Camp in the Community’s impact. His wisdom, strategic thinking, and heart for service have helped churches strengthen their engagement beyond their walls. Tom’s dedication continues to shape the mission of Camp in the Community, ensuring children, families, and congregations experience meaningful connections and transformative ministry.
Callie Smith
Secretary
Callie grew up with Camp in the Community, starting as a camper before becoming a junior counselor and later serving on the summer team for multiple seasons. During the pandemic, she played a key role in adapting camp programming to continue serving communities. Now a student at Tennessee Tech, Callie is gaining experience in media through her internship with That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs and an upcoming internship with K-LOVE. She is passionate about storytelling, community, and creating meaningful experiences for others.
