Daily Scripture: When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these
things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them. (Luke 2:15-20)
Background: After the angel told the shepherds that Jesus the Messiah had been born, they were eager to go and see it for themselves. It is possible that they were already in a neighboring village to Bethlehem and did not have to travel very far to get there.
Devotion: The Shepherds received fascinating news from the angel. Their faith was strong, and they believed everything that the angel had said was true. They could have heard the news and just continued doing their jobs as shepherds. They could have gone to bed. But They were so excited that they wanted to go and see for themselves.
It can be great to get good and exciting news. It can be even more incredible when we can see and experience it for ourselves. And once the shepherds got to Bethlehem and they saw that everything was just like the angel had told them, they had an awesome story to share. Deciding to make the trip to Bethlehem did not mean that the shepherds did not believe the angel. Having heard the news AND seen the Baby Jesus in the manger in the stable meant that the Shepherds’ testimony of everything that had happened could be shared with all.
In our lives now, we like to hear good news. It is a happy thing to hear about what Jesus is doing or hear a story from someone about how He helped them. But God wants us to find Jesus for ourselves and to see and experience his love and grace in our own lives. Then, we have a joyful testimony to share with our friends, our community and the world.
Mealtime Conversations: Jesus being born was the news everyone was waiting for, but the news was not told to the most powerful or those with the most money first. Instead, the news was first told to some shepherds who were with their sheep. You see, the good news about Jesus is that he comes to all, even everyday people.
Advent Calendar Reflection: Take some time to write a prayer of thanksgiving. Thank God for all the good things he has and continues to do for you.
Advent in Action: Like we learned today, God does not just use the strong and powerful for His plans. He uses all people regardless of their wealth and social status. God loves and cares for all of His people, just as we should. Make some Christmas cards for the people you live near and deliver them to their mailboxes or doorstep. Do this to show God’s love to others.

Trasfondo: Después de que el ángel les dijo a los pastores que Jesús el Mesías había nacido, ellos estaban ansiosos por ir y verlo por sí mismos. Es posible que ya estuvieran en un pueblo vecino a Belén y no tuvieran que viajar muy lejos para llegar allí.
Devoción: Los pastores recibieron noticias fascinantes del ángel. Su fe era fuerte y creían que todo lo que el ángel había dicho era verdad. Y una vez que los pastores llegaron a Belén y vieron que todo era como el ángel les había dicho, tenían una historia asombrosa para compartir. Decidir hacer el viaje a Belén no significó que los pastores no le creyeran al ángel. El haber escuchado la noticia Y haber visto al Niño Jesús en el pesebre del establo significaba que el testimonio de los Pastores de todo lo sucedido podía ser compartido con todos.
En nuestras vidas ahora, nos gusta escuchar buenas noticias. Es algo feliz escuchar lo que Jesús está haciendo o escuchar una historia de alguien acerca de cómo los ayudó. Pero Dios quiere que encontremos a Jesús por nosotros mismos y que veamos y experimentemos su amor y gracia en nuestras propias vidas. Entonces, tenemos un testimonio alegre para compartir con nuestros amigos, nuestra comunidad y el mundo.
Conversaciones a la hora de comer: El nacimiento de Jesús era la noticia que todos estaban esperando, pero la noticia no se les dio a los más poderosos ni a los que tenían más dinero primero. En cambio, la noticia se dio primero a algunos pastores que estaban con sus ovejas. Verá, la buena noticia de Jesús es que viene a todos, incluso a la gente común.
Reflexión del Calendario de Adviento: Tómese un tiempo para escribir una oración de acción de gracias. Dale gracias a Dios por todas las cosas buenas que tiene y sigue haciendo por ti.
Adviento en acción: como aprendimos hoy, Dios no solo usa a los fuertes y poderosos para sus planes. Utiliza a todas las personas independientemente de su riqueza y estatus social.
