Lighting the Second Candle of Advent: The second candle of advent represents Love! Love was Jesus’ focus while on earth. Love is the reason God did everything he did for us. God loved us, so he sent us Jesus. Mary and Joseph are beautiful symbols of love for each other, for God, and for Jesus. Jesus tells us that there are a lot of things we are asked to do in the Bible, but the greatest commandments are to love God and love our neighbors (Matthew 22).
It's easy to see how much God loves us, just by looking deeper at the story of Christ’s birth. Today, thank God for giving us love, and as you do, light the first purple candle for hope, and the second purple candle for love.

Daily Scripture: He will be a man with the Spirit and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children,[a] and he will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of the godly." (Luke 1:17)
Background: This Scripture is describing Jesus' cousin: John the Baptist. He is the son of
Elizabeth and Zechariah, who we learned about earlier. When someone has been "baptized", they show that they have asked God to forgive them and no longer want to live a life of sin. We call it a water baptism when someone is dipped in water as a symbol of their decision to follow Jesus.
Devotion: It can be difficult to learn new things without a good foundation. Before we learn how to run, we first have to learn how to hold up our head, then roll over, stand, and walk. Before we read, we learn the alphabet and the sounds each letter makes and usually someone has to teach us these steps or we learn from watching.
The world had never seen someone like Jesus before. The things He was coming to do and teach were new to everyone and their hearts were not ready to receive this information. John the Baptist was born to prepare the world for what Jesus was going to do. He preached about the messiah who was coming to save the world. He reminded God's people about the prophecies about Jesus' coming, and he let them know that the Messiah they had been waiting for was coming soon. The Israelites had been through so much that it was probably hard to believe that anyone could help, but John helped them understand that Jesus was going to heal their hearts and help them get closer to God.
God loves us so much that He sends people to help us get to know Jesus. He does not expect us to learn everything there is to know all by ourselves. He also gave us the Bible so we can read and study. We can pray and ask questions when we don't understand things and the more we learn the easier it becomes to understand and obey God's Word.
Mealtime Conversations: Christians get baptized to show that they leave their old lives behind to follow Jesus. Think about what getting baptized means to you.
Advent Calendar Reflection: The first time you learned about Jesus may have been a long time ago or recently. Think about that first time you heard about Jesus. Write down some of the things that stood out to you when you first heard about Him and write some things you have recently learned about him.
Advent in Action: Step out of your comfort zone and tell someone some basics about Jesus, and therefore help prepare their hearts for Jesus to enter it.

Encendido de la segunda vela de Adviento: ¡ La segunda vela de adviento representa el amor! El amor fue el enfoque de Jesús mientras estuvo en la tierra. El amor es la razón por la que Dios hizo todo lo que hizo por nosotros. Dios nos amó, por eso nos envió a Jesús. María yJosé son hermosos símbolos de amor el uno por el otro, por Dios y por Jesús. Juan el Bautista nació para preparar al mundo para lo que Jesús iba a hacer. Predicó sobre el mesías que vendría a salvar al mundo. Le recordó al pueblo de Dios las profecías sobre la venida de Jesús y les hizo saber que el Mesías que habían estado esperando llegaría pronto. Los israelitas habían pasado por tanto que probablemente era difícil creer que alguien pudiera ayudar, pero Juan les ayudó a entender que Jesús iba a sanar sus corazones y les ayudaría a acercarse más a Dios.
Dios nos ama tanto que envía personas para ayudarnos a conocer a Jesús. No espera que aprendamos todo lo que hay que saber por nosotros mismos. También nos dio la Biblia para que podamos leer y estudiar. Podemos orar y hacer preguntas cuando no entendemos las cosas y cuanto más aprendemos, más fácil se vuelve entender y obedecer la Palabra de Dios.
Conversaciones a la hora de comer: los cristianos se bautizan para demostrar que dejan atrás sus vidas anteriores para seguir a Jesús. Piense en lo que significa bautizarse para usted.
Reflexión sobre el Calendario de Adviento: La primera vez que aprendiste acerca de Jesús puede haber sido hace mucho tiempo o recientemente. Piense en la primera vez que escuchó acerca de Jesús.
