Daily Scripture: 36 What's more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the word of God will never fail. (Luke 1:36-37)
Background: Way back in Malachi 3:1, God promised he would send a messenger ahead of Jesus. This messenger would help prepare the way. The baby Elizabeth and Zechariah will have (John), not only answers their prayers but it fulfills the promise God made to all of us.
Devotion: Have you ever had people talk about you behind your back? Or say mean things to you or about you? Those words can be so hurtful, and can make us feel very discouraged. If you have been praying for something for a long time, and your prayer hasn't been answered yet, it would be even more discouraging for someone to make fun of that.
That's what had been happening to Elizabeth and Zechariah for a very long time. In this time, women who did not have children were often looked down upon or made fun of, and many people would not be their friends. For Zechariah, it was traditional for all priests to have children, and when they didn't they were thought of as lesser priests. All in all, society was not very kind to Elizabeth and Zechariah.
In today's Scripture, God is letting Mary know she is not the only one pregnant. Her cousin Elizabeth would be pregnant. And both of their children would be sent from God for specific purposes.
God gives a very strong and direct message at the end of today's Scripture: "For the Word of God will never fail." God wants us to know that even if the world is against us, He is for us. If people are making fun of us, God is there loving us with a perfect love. He will hear our prayers, and answer them, and nothing anyone says can change that.
This Scripture also shows us that God sends us people to walk beside us when things are challenging. Maybe it's a friend who has been through something similar. Maybe it is a trusted adult who can give us wisdom. God promises to care for us, and he reminds us that he always does it when he promises something.
Mealtime Conversations: Like we learned yesterday, God is always listening to our prayers. Elizabeth was without a child for a long time, yet God eventually answered their prayers and gave them a child. You see, God does not always give us what we want when we want it, but Heis alway faithful to us. How have you seen God's faithfulness?
Advent Calendar Reflection: Draw a picture of yourself with things you hope, dream, and pray for. God always answers our prayers, and often in bigger and better ways than we imagined. What would life look like if you dreamed as big as God does?
Advent in Action: Be brave and ask your friends and family what their big dreams are! Share with them what your hopes and dreams are too. Remember as you share, that with God all things are possible.

Antecedentes: En Malaquías 3: 1, Dios prometió que enviaría un mensajero antes que Jesús. Este mensajero ayudaría a preparar el camino. El bebé que tendrán Isabel y Zacarías (Juan), no solo responde a sus oraciones, sino que también cumple la promesa que Dios nos hizo a todos.
Devoción: ¿Alguna vez alguien ha hablado de ti a tus espaldas? ¿O decir cosas malas sobre ti o sobre ti? Esas palabras pueden ser muy hirientes y pueden hacernos sentir muy desanimados. Si ha estado orando por algo durante mucho tiempo y su oración aún no ha sido respondida, sería aún más desalentador que alguien se burlara de eso.
Eso es lo que les había estado sucediendo a Isabel y Zacarías durante mucho tiempo. En este tiempo, las mujeres que no tenían hijos a menudo eran despreciadas o se burlaban de ellas, y muchas personas no eran sus amigas. Para Zacarías, era tradicional que todos los sacerdotes tuvieran hijos, y cuando no los tenían, se los consideraba sacerdotes menores. Con todo, la sociedad no fue muy amable con Isabel y Zacarías.
En las Escrituras de hoy, Dios le hace saber a María que ella no es la única embarazada. Su prima Elizabeth estaría embarazada. Y sus dos hijos serían enviados por Dios para propósitos específicos.
Dios da un mensaje muy fuerte y directo al final de la Escritura de hoy: "Porque la Palabra de Dios nunca fallará". Dios quiere que sepamos que incluso si el mundo está contra nosotros, Él está a nuestro favor. Si la gente se burla de nosotros, Dios nos ama con un amor perfecto. Él escuchará nuestras oraciones y las responderá, y nada de lo que alguien diga puede cambiar eso.
Esta Escritura también nos muestra que Dios nos envía personas a caminar a nuestro lado cuando las cosas son difíciles. Tal vez sea un amigo que ha pasado por algo similar. Tal vez sea un adulto de confianza que pueda darnos sabiduría. Dios promete cuidar de nosotros y nos recuerda que siempre lo hace cuando promete algo.
Conversaciones a la hora de comer: Como aprendimos ayer, Dios siempre está escuchando nuestras oraciones. Isabel estuvo sin un hijo durante mucho tiempo, pero Dios finalmente respondió sus oraciones y les dio un hijo. Verá, Dios no siempre nos da lo que queremos cuando lo queremos, pero siempre es fiel a nosotros. ¿Cómo ha visto la fidelidad de Dios?
Reflexión del Calendario de Adviento: Haz un dibujo de ti mismo con las cosas que esperas, sueñas y rezas. Dios siempre responde a nuestras oraciones y, a menudo, de maneras más grandes y mejores de lo que imaginamos. ¿Cómo sería la vida si soñaras tan grande como Dios?
